We've had three Volvos, two of them 240's. I've replaced the radiators in all three to resolve overheating problems. The radiators are relatively cheap (especially compared to a cooked engine) and are the usual cause of a host of problems.

If neither seat is heating then it's probably the power wire coming to the switches. Do the switches light ? I would think not if both seat heaters are out. If the lights are coming on for either one then that seat should be heating, if not then the connection underneath the seat is probably pulled ...
