Re: 1997 960 will not start after head gasket replace
I had this happen too, for me it turned out that the ground for the power stages was not connected. My 94 has a ground tang that is located on the driver side engine mount bracket. There is a black plastic wire chase that hold some harness wires, the 10mm bolt that hold this plastic piece also holds...

Re: 1996 960 small coolant leak - Hose?
It very well could be the hose. But if they are original, which I doubt, OEM Volvo hose can easily go ten years, with the exception of the upper radiator, that one, gets hard and eventually cracks the fitting on the radiator. But I would determine where the leak is coming from, get a light and a sma...

Re: 94 960 3ltr 24v Heavy knock on start
I am with Ethan on this, most likely, there is a miss on start up but is sounds as though it is more than one cylinder. But it clears up quickly, could be a leaking head gasket and some coolant is getting into a chamber or two? A bad power stage is another possibility.

Is that really an in line 6 cylinder? With manual transmission too. 2.5 Litre engine, here is a 5 cylinder. Does this have a turbo?
For it's age, that car looks great. Have fun with it.

You can install immediately. The Volvo product does not work until it is removed from oxygen, so you have plenty of time to secure that head top.

Re: 1995 960 - Car runs rough with Mass Air Sensor
Dan & Jimmy, Thanks for the replies. I will pass along to the technician. One more question. The car broke down about 350 miles away where my daughter is in college. If I decide to just drive it home with the MAF unplugged, will this cause any damage to the car such as the plugs? thanks, Tim No...

Re: 1995 960 - Car runs rough with Mass Air Sensor
Generally, if the engine runs better with the MAF unplugged, that means a bad MAF. But in your case it looks as though two new MAFs made it run better but just for a short time. Two things come to mind, bad wire connectors, meaning, corrosion somewhere between the ECM and the MAF. Use an ohm meter a...

Re: 94 Volvo 960 "No Speed Sensor Code 3-1-1"
Most likely this is a corrosion problem of a connector, either at the rear differential where the sensor is located, or the big plug on the shock tower driverside under the hood. Try carfully to pry the big plug apart, it is hinged at the bottom, so it comes apart first at the top. Use a electronic/...

Re: 1998 S90 Oil drip from rear of the engine
There may be two seals one for each cam shaft, but sometimes there is not one for the intake cam. The cover is sealed with RTV and popped into position. Most likely your exhaust cam seal is leaking, you should try to verify this though. As you may have already seen, not much room to work back there....

Re: 98 S90 250,000 Miles
Congrats, if they are maintained, most will perform as yours. Good job. How is your oil usage? I ask because, I bought my '94 in '95 and from that day on it hovered around 1300 miles per quart. It gradually worsened until I swapped the engine out at 234,000 miles, by then it was a quart every tank f...
