Re: The New XC40 - What you need to know

Well, I'm hoping it's a great car, as I have one on order! At first, Volvo said delivery date in November, but now I'm told mid-August. I think because I got my order into the pipeline before a glut of orders hit their system. I put all the extras on the top-of-the-line model, and it comes to about ...

Not really. This 'quote' was from my service advisor of 19 years. He knew I wasn't going to repair the car. I just asked for a ballpark number.

Sure, I understand all that. I had asked the service rep to 'ballpark' it for me. It was not a firm quote, as I had already told him we were not going to repair/replace it.

Re: 1999 XC70 102k Coolant loss, engine loss - options/discussion/

Also, thanks for the name Brett Borders. I will follow up. You all have been very helpful. Thank you. I’d like it to continue to be a great car for someone. That car never failed me. Until this. Aaarrrgh. But I’m ready for a brand new car. The XC40 handles and feels a lot like my XC70 did. It’s nice...

Re: 1999 XC70 102k Coolant loss, engine loss - options/discussion/

Yes. I agree. A man responded to my NextDoor post. He is interested in it for father-son project. I’d love that to happen. We have had three cars since our kids were in high school. So even with my beloved car gone, we still have two to drive until my new XC40 (yay!!) arrives. My husband has a 2005 ...

Re: 1999 XC70 102k Coolant loss, engine loss - options/discussion/

Wow— that’s good to know. To be honest, we don’t feel like fixing it ourselves and waiting for the next thing to go wrong. It’s been a great vehicle for 19 years. We are just shocked that it died that way. We have the 2019 XC40 on order, due to arrive in August. But we thought the XC70 would have ma...

Re: 1999 XC70 AWD wagon

Thanks, June. The steam filled the cabin of the car, so much that we couldn’t even see the console. We had to restart it, to move off the highway. We filled it with coolant, only to discover the liquid pooled on the floor inside the car. The engine melted, according to our mechanic. The heater core ...

1999 XC70 AWD wagon

We are original owners of a 1999 XC70 AWD wagon. It only has 102,000 miles on it. Always maintained by the book, with oil services every 3,500 miles. Last weekend, without warning, white steam billowed out of the center console while we were going up a hill on the freeway. The engine temp did not re...

Re: How did this happen?

The car was only driven a very short distance to get off the highway. About three city blocks. Our mechanic is at the Volvo dealership where we purchased the car and have always had it maintained. He said the engine is ruined, as is the heater core. He said about $10,000 for them to replace engine a...
