Update on ETM and MAF issue

The local Volvo dealer pointed out a bad ETM and MAF and wanted approximately $1200 to repair. The ETM was only 3 years old. I opted to order my MAF from IPD for $120 vs Volvo's $350. I also packed up the ETM and shipped it to Xemodex. That cost me just under $500. The EVAP hose to the manifold was ...

Re: Should I use a genuine Volvo MAF instead of aftermarket?

I purchased a maf from ipd. I'm waiting on the etm to return from xemodex. I hope that the running issue will be resolved. It's a matter of return on investment. I've sunk too much into this S80 to sell it off for parts. When it runs it is a great car.

Re: 2001 S80 2.9

The MAF (integrated IAT) is on order from IPD. This S80 isn't really a POS so much as a PITA. Things like being forced to go to the dealer for ETM programming is ridiculous to me. While my rovers are a whole different breed of troubles at least I can purchase handheld tools that allow me to talk to ...

Re: 2001 S80 2.9

That action may be typical of many young drivers but not my 22 yo daughter. She has been driving since 12. That was offroading in some incredible environments. She's been licensed since 16 and has never had any violation or accident. In fact, she had only driven that S80 for 4 months since buying my...

Re: 2001 S80 2.9

I do understand the age has a big bearing on everything. It just frustrates me to sink a lot of money into an old car that is worth less than the sum of the parts installed. I tried to use the hidden DTC (ign in II, hold 'read', press fog light switch twice) but nothing happens(?). Up until about tw...

Re: 2001 S80 2.9

This S80 only has 80k miles. Since I've owned it (10k miles ago) I've had to replace the timing belt kit (when the tensioner exploded), water pump (because I was there) front calipers, front struts, alternator, radiator, MAF and ETM (this is the second ETM). This may be a 17 y.o. vehicle but it was ...

Re: 2001 S80 2.9

I've owned over 30 Land Rovers including Series, 110, RRC, P38, D1, D2 and LR4. I'm presently down to 6. That said they can be a PITA too but I've never owned anything with so few miles that had so many failures. I'll try to find the self diagnostic function info to check it out. I can say when park...

Re: 2001 S80 2.9

I used a generic code reader. The only code (and check engine light) was PO113 pointing to a failed IAT in the MAF sensor. I haven't been able to find any information about diagnostics or any other viable information to repair this vehicle. The dealer told me the ETM and MAF were bad. They didn't pr...

Re: Should I use a genuine Volvo MAF instead of aftermarket?

Done. I purchased from IPD. I kept trying to select a MAF under the S80 page until the website said it fit my vehicle. It makes sense to order from a forum sponsor. Thanks.

Should I use a genuine Volvo MAF instead of aftermarket?

That's the question but there's more. I think this MAF was swapped out during a prior repair. How does one determine which part number is required short of asking the dealer?
