Driving Light mount kit advice

I am trying to add fog and driving lights to my 2005 V70. Thanks to excellent advice from this forum, I got the front bumper off, which turned out to not be that hard :D I am tempted to buy this kit: https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts/volvo-attachment-kit-30772053 https://d354nuoz4t18d4.cloudfront...

Re: 2005 v70 Front bumper removal

I don't actually care about having just the fogs on, but they really need to be on with just the parking lights or they are useless. My old 740 Volvo and both my old Mercedes would do this, but somehow this is no longer a thing with newer cars :(
Love your PIAA lights BTW :)

2005 v70 Front bumper removal

For my 2005 V70, is there anything related to rivets involved in taking the front bumper off? I found some DIY videos and it did not look like rivets were involved, but i sort of recall something to do with that. I need to replace a light bulb and install some foglights. Thanks! Re: 2002 S60: alternator/voltage regulator going out (or computer issue)?

I am not sure about the regulator versions, but back a couple of posts I can say with modern cars a bad battery can cause numerous issues. Our Avalon was suffering with some erratic voltage readings and would throw ABS or Traction Control codes. A new battery fixed it totally.

The regulator is certainly one thing that can go wrong, but before you get into that check all connections. A loose connection to the battery or ground can induce similar shenanigans. My old Starion did something similar when the ground wire to the battery started coming loose.

The local shop wants $80 to set the headlights to turn on and off with the switch instead of being always on.
A FleaBay VIDA/DICE is about $80. So.........how hard is it to do this myself? Is it a simple menu choice or what?

I was thinking that - probably worth my $ to use the OEM fluid. The car has 85K and the dealer flushed and refilled the tranny at about 35K and I am sure they used the original Volvo fluid.
I don't have any real issue with the transmission, but it seems time to drain and fill.

This seems to be the issue. One hose was just gone! The diagram does not seem to match the actual hoses the car has. The hose that broke off went over to the air box thermostat. I plugged that opening and my long term fuel trim is headed down from 24 and seems to be down to about 8 right now. I alre...

The vacuum hose that goes back under the intake manifold feels hard and crumbly to the touch. I am sure it will break apart if I pull on it. This is maybe the issue? I might replace it if I can figure out where the other end goes.

Any voltage under 13.8 will charge the battery VERY slowly and not to 100% either. Some advanced charging systems will back off to 13.5 (+ or - ) to be easy on the battery after it is full. My car seems to vary between 13.8 and 14.4.

Re: Will a battery with larger capacity cause damage?

Chart helps. This H6 battery in our 97' 850 says CA @32ºF 900 and CCA @0ºF 730. Is 900 & 730 an Amp value? Per this chart, in my situation of temps @-20ºF. Would the CA drop to 400 and CCA to 300, respectively (ballpark)? Where will the voltage be -- 9.xxV? MVS_H6_2927.jpg Yes - 900 amps at 32 degr...

Maybe I was not understanding the spark plug test. I thought it was for finding a bad ground. You certainly can take them out to see if they spark, done this about 1000 times on my boat engine. Just watching them spark will give you no idea if the timing is correct.

Re: long starting when cold on xc70: dealer says crankshaft thrust bearings

Probably not. Spark plugs will arc to a large piece of metal, grounded or not. What could possible help is grounding the engine and transmission to each other and the car body. All three things need to have good electrical contact with each other. You can put a voltmeter between them when you crank ...

Can you get a voltmeter into the relay socket? I don't have the Volvo wiring diagram in front of me, but normally a relay like this works as so: There are 4 pins and corresponding sockets for them to fit into. One should go to ground, one should always have 12 volts + when the car is on, one leads t...

We are talking cars that are complicated premium brand euro-cars that were expensive when new. The youngest of them now are 10 years old and they have depreciated a LOT. I would try the following: 1. Second opinion 2. New cranks sensor 3. Check all the wiring! Make sure the engine ground and battery wire to the starter are good. Maybe add another ground connection from the engine to the body. While "magnetic fields" are probably not the issue, bad connections with v...

I cannot imagine what you could do to a starter to generate a large magnetic field that it doesn't do anyway unless the whole outer housing rusted off and it is just exposed wires. OTOH I think a new crank sensor is a hell of a lot cheaper than a new engine. I would start with that and/or go to anot...

Re: Calling electrical experts... have 06/XC70 need some hacking advice

Relays are electromechanical switches. Heavy wires run from the 12 volt supply to the relay to the loads. Very little current is needed to turn the relay itself on and off. So you can run a heavy wire (say 10-12 gauge) from battery + through a fuse and through a relay to your load(s). You then run a...

Re: Calling electrical experts... have 06/XC70 need some hacking advice

I suppose you have to weigh the time and money to find all the wires, run them new places to new relays, and figure triggers for those relays vs. just getting the CEM fixed. Parts wouldn't be too bad, but finding the wires and getting new ones run could be a huge PITA and there may be unexpected con...
