Drive axles

Post by tailor »

After reading posts here and other forums about broken axles, I am thinking it prudent not to go ahead and use the FEQ axles I have from FCP.
I was waiting for warmer weather anyway.

My questions are these:
1)Will automatic transaxles on a 97 850 N/a fit into 1994 850 turbo wagon. Or is it turbo only for turbo and of course automatic transmission for automatic.

2)Other than new axle seals should I be aware of anything else, my version of Vadis does little to enlighten me about the parts or numbers or other nasty bits. I have seen the other posts about cv boot and transaxle replacement.

The models after 1995(I think) had started the reusable 36mm axel nuts and all the parts suppliers seem to indicate these would fit earlier models!

Thanks in advance.

Fixed due to poor spelling

AXLES
(Can't help you with the answer but use VOLVO axles not aftermarket from Groton)

Call them...talk to Marty.
I have had great luck with theirs. I hear bad things about groton's.
You'll have to send them your bad core.

Having just experienced a broken axel and towing bill (son's), would advise to follow the leads suggested. Removal of a broken axel is more fun than you want.

I had good luck with FCP's DSS brand of axles. They were the correct size with the large retaining nuts and fit well. And no hassle of sending back cores. I don't run my car very hard (being a family station wagon) so if you do you may want to go with some performance alternative but for everyday driving these axles are just fine.

The previous owner replaced my driver's side axle 10k miles ago when he had the shocks and struts done which left a every worn our passenger side axle.

So I picked up the $67 FCP axle on ebay. I haven't installed it yet but I thought I would take some pics of it so everyone gets an idea what what you are getting. Its Made in China.

As far as I can tell the quality looks about the same as any other axle I've installed before. But who knows what terrible secrets hide inside. I'll install it and see what happens.

Granted, not everyone has had trouble with these Chinese drive axles. I hope yours works fine. Keep us updated.
