I've read anti-freeze will eat transmission bands. Not sure how or why but I hope a flush works in your case.

:) :) :) All smiles tonight. Built a bypass to avoid the radiator, Dumped the tranny and refilled ran it through the gears and dumped it again, then pumped12 qts through the flush method. The first few quarts were still pretty cloudy. Topped it of and took her for a test spin. Transmission worked great. I know smiling about having to buy a new radiator may seem odd but it sure beat buying a transmission not to mention the install :P :P :P

Why buy a new radiator when you can buy an aftermarket transmission cooler that is air cooled? One limitation of the tranny cooler being in the main radiator is that the tranny fluid will NEVER be cooler than the coolant in your engine. One problem with an air system is it is less efficent than liquid cooling. So I would say if you were to do this you would need a much bigger cooler than the internal if you are running air to water cooling. In day to day driving this may in fact lower your transmission temperatures. So long as the old fittings for the trans cooler going into the radiator are drained then blocked you can keep your current radiator.

Less work, cheaper and better cooling if done right. If it was me I would try it! Some people don't like my style of fixing things though :) Just a FYI Police Interceptor Crown Victorias use the cooling method I described on their transmissions, doesn't get much harsher than that.

I meant my prior post as a suggestion I think I sounded way to gung ho on it.

A friend suggested the same thing to me but I can buy a new radiator at a reasonable price and not have to jerry rig the hoses..It just keeps it cleaner...and getting a tranny cooler to fit the hoses with out changing them out may not be as easy at it sounds.

Well time for the tears   This weekend I picked up a new radiator and all was well...My wife took the car to work today and tonight told me that it did't shift right. Thinking I had the issue solve I took it for a test drive tonight and got a couple of miles down the road..The transmission shimmied a little as I pulled away from a stop sign then acted like it was in nuetral. Tried several things to get it back home but couldn't get it to do more then shimmy a little. I guess I should have left the bypass in place for a fesw days before buying the radiator. I think the transmission is done.
