Long time reader, first time poster.
I have been watching pull a part lots for a 2005 V70 2.4L automatic transmission from a Volvo. I have not been able to find one anywhere near me.
All that being said, I know that Aisin makes the same transmission, AW55-50SN, for other make and models. Here locally, there is a 2004 Nissan Quest minivan on the lot. I could get the transmission for 125.25 with a 6 month warranty. So this is why I am tempted.
While it is tempting, I was wondering if anyone was crazy enough to try and put a non-Volvo transmission in their car. I am sure it is not a possibility but just seeing if it would be an option or if anyone has been crazy enough to try it.

The AW55-50SN comes in so many different builds that I wouldn't even put one in from the same MODEL and YEAR of Volvo unless I searched the VIN of both cars on Vida for compatability.
Swapping transmission from one make to another can be done with some vehicles (I swapped a Toyota AW-341E into a Volvo 960 last Summer, but detail differences made the swap a bear of a job) however these new cars are so tightly controlled by their transmission computer that using anything but the right transmission won't work.

The bell housing does not unbolt from the aw 55-50 gearbox. You can't use one from another make as they do not use a standardized bolt pattern. Even with the same manufacturer the bolt pattern for different engines is not always standardized.

Thanks for the replies Mike and Jimmy. Sounds like the cost definitely outweighs the benefit. I will just sit patiently and wait for a 2005 Volvo to pop up.
