is there an O ring or gasket that needs to be replaced with the thermostat?

i should mention it is a 96 850 turbo wagon

Yes, when I ordered my thermostat from FCP Groton, it came with the o-ring, but that may not be the case if you get the part from the dealer. Also, make sure you have lots of leverage and be very careful not to strip the T-40 screws when replacing the thermostat. Those screws are in there VERY tight.

The thermostat has a split O ring that fits around the edge of the housing.When you purchase a new thermostat the O ring is included
