'96 850's Sunroof Stuck Open - Winter Approaches!!

Post by Silver Winter Surfer »

I just got a 1996 850 Turbo about a month ago. Everything has been great until last night. I got home after driving my half hour commute from work and the sunroof wouldn't close. It will go from full open to the mostly open position (the position it goes to when you use the auto-open feature). When I try to close it all the way, it hits this point and then just reverses and opens all the way up again. I've checked all the tracks, the liner, and the roof for obstructions and haven't found anything. Is there some "feature" that I don't know about that is preventing the sunroof from closing all the way?

By now I'm sure someone has informed you on how to close the roof in an emergency. Anyway, under the roof lights the motor is exposed. There is a torx or philips screw (its been awhile since I looked) that you turn and the roof will manually close. This is definitely a dealership repair. You risk many dollars of damage on certain repairs on the roof, such as replacement of the motor. Good Luck.
