So everything was going along (reasonably) well in my PCV replacement (thanks to the many helpful write-ups available), and I finally got the intake manifold back on and was re-attaching all the various hoses when I saw an unused hose clamp and said, "Oh s***." I'm about 99% sure that clamp was the one that was supposed to go on the hose connecting to the center of the oil trap (hose #2 in the diagram). I definitely clamped the engine side of the hose, but this would be the clamp that connected to the oil trap.
My question is: is this a definite call to disassemble everything again, and clamp this, or is it a let-it-run and see if it leaks scenario? I'm leaning toward taking it apart, but obviously...that's a huge pain.
Advice?

I'd put the clamp on.SkyVolvo wrote:So everything was going along (reasonably) well in my PCV replacement (thanks to the many helpful write-ups available), and I finally got the intake manifold back on and was re-attaching all the various hoses when I saw an unused hose clamp and said, "Oh s***." Yeah. I came to the same conclusion - I think I just needed some support. Also, it turns out if I add an extra step to the process, it gets better: I opened a beer.

^^^This. Now that you know where everything is, you might be able to reach your hand up in there and get it on. The clamp, on the other hand, is really going to be a PITA, and I'm not sure it could really be done. But hey, hopefully this is something you'll never have to do again!

As long as Number 2 pipe was pushed on fully and was a new pipe, not the grotty one reused, then I can't see any reason for the pipe to come loose provided you clamped the block side up and bolted the oil seperator onto the block it shouldnt move, had one in today that wasnt bolted to the block or clamped to the block owner was complaining that the car was loosing oil [wonder why] after a nice oiley mess was cleaned up everything has been sorted.SkyVolvo wrote:So everything was going along (reasonably) well in my PCV replacement (thanks to the many helpful write-ups available), and I finally got the intake manifold back on and was re-attaching all the various hoses when I saw an unused hose clamp and said, "Oh s***." This ^^^.
As I mentioned above:
1. Try from below, it will be tough but worth a try.
According to this Turbo PCV DIY:
http://www.lakesidedp.com/uploadpics/pcv/index.html
"C" may be in your way if you try from below:

2. On the other hand, even without a clamp, you will be fine, because as the crankcase pressure builds up, it is sucked away into the Intake Manifold anyway, so the pressure on that PARTICULAR connection is very very low.
I don't expect any leak even w/o a clamp.
Now after another 100K with the system clogging up again, only then you might see a leak at that PARTICULAR connection.
But by that time, you probably move on to another car....
If this were my car, this is what I would do:
- Once a month, get a mirror and flashlight and check at that Particular Connection. It should be dry.
