Can anyone give me a clue what to check first before I send it to a dealer?

For what car? Sometimes the socket gets a bit dirty with corrosion and a little sand paper or even a pencil end eraser can clean one out. Hope this helps. This is if you've changed the bulb and it still doesn't work.
