Does anyone know about radio codes?!

Post by Chad E. »

I have a 98 S70 that I purchased used last week. I was given the wrong code for the stereo! :x Does anybody out there know how to locate the code without having to pay $45.00 to the dealership? Maybe hidden somewhere under the hood, or somewhere else?

Thanks, Chad

Call a dealer until you find one that will give you the code for free. I believe they all run off the same database that associates VIN <--> radio code. Explain your situation, and be very polite and direct.

The dealer here in Seattle didn't charge me the one time I needed something from them of a "very light service" nature (reading diagnostic codes).

I've heard of some dealers charging $60 for this. It's just a combination of luck and who you speak to.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Were you able to get the code? If not let me know and I can get it for you.

I just put my Pioneer Cd player in the car w/disc changer. It was something I knew I would do eventually, but when I found out how much it was going to be to get the code from the dealer, I figured I might as well have that installed. It was actually cheaper...

Thanks anyways though Rich, I appreciate it. Chad
