My V70xc has only52k but transmission is down. Help!!!!???

Post by buja »

My Volvo V70xc 1999 has 52k miles on it. When I push the gas pedal, the RPM goes over 4000 and RPM will not drop down automatically so I have to let go the gas pedal. Also the power is getting weaker (loss of power) and will not speed up well. Transmission is not shifting right. Recently the flashing arrow light and check engine light came on. So I took it to dealer. The dealer pulled code next day and told me that I need to replace transmission and will cost over $4000. Prior to turn in my car to the dealer, I have showed and let a service advisor know/ask with/about ETM problem (I have print out document from the internet) but the guy told it

Wondering how you made out with your transmission? I have a 2001 XC wagon with 68k miles and they are saying I need a new transmission because it is slipping. I have my car serviced from the dealer I bought it at and I am very faithful about having it serviced. Do you know if Volvo has a good faith program?

Not a good faith program, but they do have what's called a "Good Will" program...no kidding, and you should ask them about it...but you should also read my reply to your other post.

In speaking with a friend who is a brother of a Volvo Service Advisor, I was told the ETM failures are causing transmission problems. The ETM is sending incorrect messages to the transmission causing serious damage. Just thought I would pass on the latest news. I took mine in for a trans fluid flush after they replaced the ETM as a preventative measure and found the transmission fluid on my 2001XC70 in synthetic and is $30 / Gal, a complete flush is 20 Gal. I am curious if Don Wilson is aware of this.

Cheers,

Finally Volvo owned up to ETM problems after several trips (over many months) to have codes cleared. Now I have transmission problems. They say they have corrected initial acceleration thump with a software update. Up hill shudder they say may be fixed with new computer control module but are warning a new transmission may be required. Any hard evidence of a link between faulty ETM and transmission failure.
