98 V70R AWD air pump, power steering rack, abs module...

Post by dan in hawaii »

First: I had the air pump and check valve in the exhaust system replaced about 1 year ago. Then about six months ago the check engine light came on again. It was diagnosed as the air pump again. This time it turned out to be the air line into the air pump. This was fixed, the pump was fine. Now, check engine light on again and one again it has been diagnosed as the air pump.
Any suggestions to stop this $700 per visit nightmare from happening again?

Also, ABS / TRACS lights are on, and brake pedal vibrates/ can feel ABS initiate under normal driving conditions. From reading another tech site, it sounds like the ABS control module is bad. Any recommendations on how to repair the module myself, without replacing it?

Finally, power steering pump was making noise, added fluid, noise stopped. Dealership said there is a leak in the power steering rack and that the pump needs to be replaced. How do I tell if the pump is bad? The steering seems normal and has not made any noise since the resevoir was topped off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am tired of pissing away $600-700 per month sending the car to the mechanic. Contemplating selling the car.

Thanks,
Dan

it helps if u do not turn the steering until full lock.

Technically at full lock the pressure increases exponentially until infinity.

if leak not major just add those stop leak fuids u find everywhere and top up occasionally. put one spare bottle in car and keep an eye on the power steering fluid level.

Catastrophic failure is rare, it just leaks if u can sleep at night just top it up and no full lock, will last u few years of topping up compared with price of repair.

as to ABS module, one chappie reconditions it in US costs less than USD200. dunno where, just search the internet, and u can find.
