Bulb Position Failure Light warning on a Volvo S60

Post by Brian »

Does anyone out there have any suggestions on how I get the warning message to go away? I have a message on my 2001 S60 saying "Bulb Position Failure Light". I have checked each light on my car and none of them are out? I am not sure why this message continually appears?

Any suggestions/thoughts are appreciated.

Did you check the rear fog light? The one that looks like a brake light, but only on one side...

Did you have someone press the brakes while you look at the brake lights?
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link

I have had the intermittant problem with a bulb that would flicker. The dash would show a light out and I would get out of the car and shut the door and the vibration from the door would be enough to get it to work again. Tap the reflector covers - this may show you a bulb with a broken fillament that still has enough to flicker on (rear lights).

Good Luck

I have a similar problwm with my Bulb Position Failure Light. It comes on the first time you tap the brake pedal when you have the headlights on and it only lights for an instant. I have had Volvo replace the front turn signal lights due to a recall and had them replaced a year before that for the same reason as the recall. Volvo can not find anything wrong and I have checked every light to see if they are loose or cracked etc. Any other suggestions would be most welcome.

Hey everyone,

I have a 2003 S60 and also get this annoying "position bulb failure" message. On another forum it says to slam the trunk shut do dislodge dirt from a clogged sensor that is too sensitive, I nearly wrecked the car I slammed so hard! Still this message. ALL lights are ok, there is no foglight because the north america model comes without....
Do I have to get the dealer to look at it?

cheers,
Dave
