Volvo Repair Database 1999 V70 T5 Coolant Level Sensor replacement 30741155

Post by abscate »

A pretty simple operation, but I felt I needed to document it since my 15 year old rose to the challenge..

Symptom - red light on dash, even though coolant level in reservoir is between MIN and MAX mounts

Tools needed (I have no idea why I put screwdriver in there)

Pop the power Steering hose and coolant return hose out of the clips as shown

Tip up the Coolant reservoir and P/S reservoir (no need to separate them) to expose the sensor

Abby is grabbing the end with pliers - the sensor goes up into a plastic tube so no coolant comes out when you pull it.

Push the new one in, connector back together, reinstall coolant reservoir and P/S reservoir

Pour yourself a Swedish beer while your assistant checks coolant level..

Dad "By the way, a mechanic would charge you 100 USD to do this job"

Abby - "Seriously??"

...and another DIY is born......

Great DIY with nice pictures, thanks for putting that together. I just did the same job with great success. Before I knew I needed to do this I posted some info on what was happening that led me to do this repair. If anyone is looking for more background info on symptoms or how this thing works, here is another thread about this but no nice pics of the bottle or sensor.
