"Check Engine" light after going Skiing (snow;moun

I've just come back from a ski trip in the local mountains. ( I live in Los Angeles). On my way back, the check engine light came on and has not come off in the last 3 days. Is it somehow related to the ski trip? Sudden change in temperature and driving in a lower gear for prolonged period of time? Thanks for any advice.

LA Volvo I'm having the same problem as you. Was also wondering if a change in temperature makes the light come on for these cars. Today our temperature was in the low 30's in Dallas. My S40 seemed like it was a bit cold- so I turned on the heat very low (2). For some reason car had slow pull along the drive- I look down and the Check Engine light appears. This has never happened to my car. The oil needs to be changed but wondering as well..what's going on with my car. I hope someone can answer this question for us.

Check Engine light gets set when diagnostic system sees a fault in the emissions system. It could be several things. Or it could be a false alarm which will go away in a few days. Either way, parts just go bad. I replaced my oxygen sensor (front) when my light went off -- I got code "232 front oxygen sensor malfunction." They just go bad after 5 or 10 years... it was 60 minutes of my time plus $50-125 depending on the brand sensor you buy, if your problem is indeed the O2 sensor.

To know what it is you must have the car's codes read: Volvo Dealer (call first, reading should be free), independent mechanic (call first, reading should be free), parts supplier (call first, reading should be free), or buy an OBDII tool to do it yourself ($100 - 300).
