Can I reset the service light without a tool (2002 V70) Topic is solved

I tried the odometer/ignition trick but it didn't seem to work. This message is irritating and I want to get rid of it.

Also, what is the best place to get an oil filter?

1) Push and hold the trip meter reset button (the one next to the odometer - not the trip computer one)

2) While holding down the reset button, turn the ignition switch to position I and then position II

3) After about 5 seconds, the service light will begin to flash

4) After the second flash release the reset button

Please let me know if the instructions on my reset page aren't clear enough, providing these are clear enough and do work for you.

with all different button press and ignition switch combinations. The service message never blinks. If I hold the trip button in long enough (about 30 seconds) when the ignition is in position II, "045" will appear in the message area, but releasing the button or turning off the ignition when the "045" appears does not reset the message.

Fyi I have no trip computer in my 2002 V70.

I can empathize with you....my wife's 2002 V70 exhibited the same exact behavior and I was getting the 045 in the text window as well. Here's the trick. BTW, I hijacked a tech at a local Dealer and he gladly told me how to do it (wouldn't even take a $10 bill). Turn the key to position 1 and push in and hold the odometer reset while turning the key to position 2. You will see the trip mileage reset first and then when you turn the key to position 2 the trip mileage will come back. AS SOON as it does, turn the key ALL THE WAY TO THE OFF POSITION AND TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. Put the key back in and start the car and the message will be gone. Let me know if it doesn't work but I watched the guy do it and it worked like a charm and it only takes about 30 seconds. Good Luck, AHS

Neither of these methods worked for me.. I have a 98 S70, I don't know if it applies for that model, but I tried many times and it didn't work.

The 1998 S70 and V70 require an OBDII reader/reset tool (~$125) to reset the Service Light. The Service Light/Message on 1999 - at least 2003 can be reset with the odometer reset button/ignition switch.
