Spark Plug Cover Bolt Thread Size

Post by m96ag »

Does anyone know the thread pitch and size of the spark plug cover bolts? I have 1 stripped out hole that I need to repair with a helicoil.
Thanks!

I don't know the thread pitch without checking but the next question you will get is: do you mean spark plug cover (plastic piece, 6 screws) or cam cover (aluminum, 40 bolts)?

If it's really the spark plug cover, you may want to just get rid of it. :)

Spark Plug cover. Black plastic sits on top of the engine and does nothing.

I removed the cosmetic cover years ago and stored in my garage.
Have not touched the cosmetic cover for > 10 years.

The other day, I replaced the spark plugs, WITHOUT the cosmetic cover, it was a breeze!

So yes, get rid of that useless thingy, it does nothing but trap heat.
Not to mention when you wash engine, if you are not careful, water gets into the spark plug hole w/o you knowing about, ask me how I know!

PS: Even with one stripped hole, you can leave it alone. The remaining bolts will hold that useless thingy.

Is it useless? It keeps heat away from the charge pipe and directs it to either end of the cover.

It is a "show room" thingy.

Many years ago, Volvo didn't do that.

Over the last 20 years, car mfg's put the cosmetic cover on (BMW, MB, Honda, Volvo etc.) simply b/c customers walk into the show room expecting "a nice look under the hood".
Good for marketing but useless and cumbersome when it comes to repair.
