My AC works most of the time while the car is running in motion, however, lately, when sitting still, in alot of traffic, the AC starts blowing warm air, instead of cool air. The only time it starts blowing out cool air again is when I park the car, turn it off for a while, then restart. The dealer changed out the fan 8 months ago, however, the problem is still occuring at times. No diag codes indicating problem.
Any ideas?

I had a similar problem with mine where it would work for a while and then stop. I found out that I had water in the system (I was not vaccumed properly when recharged after a leak). This would cause ice blockage after a while and kick the compressor off. Waiting would melt the ice and the AC would work again.

i had the same problem on my 850. on this model volvo had some problems with the heat termostat on the comressor. it looks like a round brass plug, in the back on the comressor. remove the wires and plug them together so the thermostat is "wired over" (by-passed). This termostat is non renevable. NB: be sure that the comressor have enough oil!

The AC on the 850 is a complex AC compared to other vehicle types. I have had two intermittent non-cooling failures for two different reasons.
The first was a bad switch on the dash. The contacts had pitted and would lose electrical contact effectively turning off the AC by turning off the compressor. I removed the switch and cleaned the contacts and it worked for about a year. I could fix it temporarily by turning my switch off and then back on but this did not work all of the time. I had to replace the switch when I took it apart to clean it a second time when I broke it. $100 fix - parts only, I performed the labor
The most recent problem was a return hose that was collapsing when the temp went above 90 degrees. The AC would work fine until the GA sun got it above 90 and the hose would get soft and collapse shutting off the coolant flow. The AC would be cold it would hit 90 outside and the AC would blow air that was outside temp until it cooled off. $180 parts, $70 AC charge and $140 labor charge by INDY.
