850 glt Topic is solved
sounds a little suspicious. A mid 90s 850 usually retails for $8,000-$13,000 I think. So $1000 sounds too good to be true. However, if the tranny is in safe mode, it may be worth it to take to the dealer and throw some money at them. If you drop $2000-$3000 fixing the tranny then you would have a great deal. But on the other hand, it seems hard to believe that the tranny is the only problem for $1000.

Chris,
it does seem suspicious.....I personally drove the car for like a half-hour with the ac running, and it was running perfect. I contemplated turning it off and doing the ractchet (gear selector for P to L 20 times), but was actually afraid I would fix it and then she wouldn't want to sell it to me.
I guess in a worse case senerio I can sell it for $1000 and recover my money. I think I just joined the world of volvo 850s.

For that money it's an incredible buy, unless it's got a couple things wrong, in which case it's a great buy.

well, I bought it and drove it 15 miles home. I just looked in the glove box and it has all service records in it. If currently has 90k, and at 66k the transmission was replaced. When the transmission is replaced, is the PNP also replaced? If not, then it's definitely the PNP. Car looks good on the outside....it is gold with no accidents....the interior, however, is pretty torn up. She has two boys in little league.....that tells it all....lol.

Wow. You got a steal.I just looked in the glove box and it has all service records in it.
Can't comment on if the pnp is done w/ new trans or not... the pnp, if you have to do it, is ~$100 for parts. Sounds like you know enough to be able to do the labor. The trans might still be under waranty, but with ~30k miles on it, even if it's not you shouldn't have to worry about it.
Did you say it's a wagon? If so I'm green with envy!

nope, sorry not a wagon. Matthew I gotta say this is a nice site. I discovered it yesterday as I was doing research as to whether or not to buy the car. Your site has been of great help, I will definitely refer volvo owners to it, and I will always be returning.
once again thanks

Thanks for the nice words. I enjoy maintaining this site.
Please send in any thoughts and experiences you have with your Volvo, good or bad, and I'll put them on their own feature page. Subjective, objective, whatever. That goes for everyone here.

ok guys...had a chance to pull the codes on this newly purchased car. A3 comes back with 444 and 141. A1 comes back with 332, 222, and 235. Like I said earlier, it seems to be in limp mode, but I'm not getting the 313 code. Any suggestions? I believe the codes are for solenoid s2.
thanks
