Timing, 96 850 turbo

Post by marcusmcd »

When the marks on the cams align with the notches, where should the mark on the driveshaft wheel be?
Videos talk about notches on the oil pump gear, but I do not detect them. There is however a timing mark on the driveshaft wheel that lines up with the timing belt, but I cannot verify if that is correct.

In addition to the above great resources, I'd add this write-up by cn90:

It's helpful in this situation because it shows a couple of the different methods used to mark the gear:

The notch on the oil pump can be tricky to see sometimes, but it's there. Just shine a light at different angles and you'll see it.

What driveshaft wheel are you referring to? The only marks are on the cam sprockets/timing cover and the crank pulley/oil pump.

I cannot see any notches at the oil pump, but the mark I am referring to is clearly visible in the first video (which I had previously watched but missed it) around the 2:40 point. According to that, my timing is correct. So I will have to find another reason for the problem.
