99- ETM questions Topic is solved

While I was at PnP today, the only 99- they have had in ages was a 99 S70 NA. The ETM had the famous (?) yellow label. Can someone help my foggy memory but was the yellow label the replacement ones? I am asking as I thought they were usually dated on the label but this has no date on it, so maybe an early one?

2nd question. Although I don't need this as it is for a 4 speed auto NA motor, at around $40 I thought I would pull it in-case someone wanted it as a back up and although I don't know if it is good, it can be used as a diagnostic tool to eliminate or confirm issues.

Back to the question. I remember when trying to remove my 'R's ETM to test my spare, it was a near impossible job which ended up with several cuts on my hands trying to undo the stupid connector. I recall having to use Vice Grips to hold the connector wile trying to separate. I think there is supposed to be a button to press but they always seem to be missing. Any suggestions on an easier what to separate these? I cut the cable and brought the whole connector home and so far no luck and I don't want to break it.

Yellow label is a replacement ETM. Take a pic of the label and post up.

I believe software was stable in the late 2000s so those are desirable.

If I am reading the label correctly is it saying it was made in December 2001? Car was only 2-3 years old!

Throttle throat was oily when removed. I have just wiped it with a clean cloth. Really clean under all that.

Anyone got advice how to separate the ETM cable at the join? It is one of those cables with a seal in it and I find them near impossible to separate without almost destroying them. I've tried soaking in silicon oil to try to lube between the 2 parts but nothing.

Got it loose with a bench vice and a pair of adjustable pliers with sharp teeth. What fooled me (not hard!) was what I thought was a an integral part of the connector for the ETM cable side was not. I'm sure the connector should have a button on it to depress but I have yet to see one!

Cleaned and gently refitted for shipping protection.

Looks like it was manufactured in 2010 week 3?
The yellow label I think was made with some improvements but the showstopper problrm wasn't addressed.

Not sure on the 2010. Nice to think that but I think it is 031201 (3rd DEC 2001). Not sure what the 10W stands for, but you are just as likely to be right and probably more so!

The good news is that has the final revision of software so has the best chance of working with most any car. It is still a contact throttle body so can wear but likely replaced an original one that had done most of the cars life, so probably has tons of life left.

Thanks abscate for confirming what our friend kallekula said. That is good news!

ETM is now boxed up and ready to go all the way to Hawaii and our new friend Calvin. Hopefully it works for him and fixes the issues he is having.
