It could be either your key is excessively worn so the car is seeing you trying to start it with a wrong key, or maybe the tumblers are sticking.

Also try moving the transmission to N to see if it makes a difference. It could be the car is not seeing it is in Park so may be a PNP switch issue or adjustment.

Big shot of silicone spray into the tumblers might help free them up. Otherwise you are bracing yourself for a new lock assembly.

Is graphite supposed to be used in lock cylinders, not a liquid spray? For my home door locks, I put "4 In 1 Oil" on a key, insert it in the lock a few times, and it works. But I seem to remember reading that graphite is better.

I bought my S70 with a bad tumbler. Lived with it for years until I almost got stuck in some God forgotten place. Bit the bullet and bought a new assembly. Old one is easy to remove with a Dremel, just some vacuuming required afterwards.

Well I'm a bit embarrassed to admit it, since I probably should have tried it when I was first having issues with the lock, but graphite lube for the win! From the first spray the problem mostly disappeared, a little twisting of the key and now it's completely solved. Thank you!
