850 Oil pan seal

Post by manovlov »

Hy Guys,

I've recently ordered some stuff to renew my oil pan (seals). Curiously, Skandix send me a "seal" tube in place of a oil pan seal. Does someone have already used this technical ?

Should i keep this apart, and try to find a "normal" seal ?

If you advice me to go on with this paste, how should i apply it ? I've seen a video from Rob DIY, he uses a kind of small foam roller. But to use on the top of the engine ? The coat should be more thick for the oil pan, isn't it ?

The pan is sealed with the same sealant as the rest of the engine. No gasket is used.

You do need to replace the o-rings, however.

You must use the liquid anerobic seal, no actual "gasket". I've done the oil pan several times and only did a thin even coating on the pan itself. The engine part I left clean/dry. Make sure there is not a single drop of oil on the mating surface when you re-attach. The foam roller is a good idea. Just make a nice line along the pan and around all the bolt holes, then use a foam roller to spread it out and make it even.

Before adding the sealant, I suggest you practice putting the oil pan up and down a couple times, as it can be a little awkward depending on your model.
