I have wet sanded and polished the fenders to reduce some of the orange peel. I effed up majorly when polishing on the lower edge of the repair and the clear coat let go.

I managed to save it by repainting that area with my Iwata air brush and the fade out spray I bought really works well when you need to blend over spray. I can see it's not perfect because I was loosing patience and sanity at the time. But I think most people will not notice.

I think the color matches pretty well. Once I get the rest of the car washed and polished I think it'll all blend together well.

Thanks! I don't feel like I got talent though, so many small missteps and near disasters and scrambling to fix them. It's more a matter of just keeping at it I think.

I did another thing to the car which might be one of the oddest mods people have seen. I've put a 2nd washer pump in series with the original one. Just how many people want extra power for the washers?

Image

Pump is powered directly to the battery (fused!) via a relay that uses a vampire connection to the OEM pump.

Also V70 wiper arms:

Me! My 850 does not have great washers like my S70 did, and it's not just the nozzles. One of these days I need to go through the system, and see if I can find anything wrong with it. I already disconnected the headlight wipers so I'm not losing washer fluid there anymore. I never thought of a second pump, so thank you for that idea. Maybe I'll do something similar if I can't fix mine otherwise.

While I have been waiting for parts for the P2 XC70 main service to arrive, I decided to check out the SC-901 head unit I pulled from the junkyard recently before the window to return to PnP closed. Fortunately after some cleaning and technical issues with my test system for some reason, it fired up and after a clean of the laser eye, the 3CD cassette now loads and unloads as it should and the cassette as well. The bonus is all the lights seem to still be good! I noticed some of the buttons were still a little grubby, so after the photo I went back and cleaned them again. They look better now!

I also pulled the Dolby processor as well, but some numpty had pulled the cable which is NLA as well as the speaker. The cable is NLA so I will have to try to make up one from parts I have so I can test it and another I have also from a C70 P80. I have a dash top with a speaker so I can also now test that before fitting it as well. Just have to find the 2 cable ends to make up a test cable for the Dolby unit to head unit.

It's been a year or so since I posted here. 1998 V70 base model. I replaced the left front CV axle. What a pain to remove! I tried everything from my initial searches online and in my trusty Chilton manual, but it took a third or fourth deeper dive online to discover mention of an axle popper. I ordered one out of despair, and within a few minutes after it arrived, the axle was out....along with way more transmission fluid than I was expecting :o Next up is new brakes and hoses all the way around (including e-brake refresh), rear shocks, tie rods, end links, and heater core. That should get me pretty close to "stage 0"

Nothing to my 850, but I did go look at a P3 with the 3L turbo SI6 today. Lots of codes so I'll have to do some research. Weirdly it seemed to have multiple of the same codes. Easiest one, I assume, is a low temp code which should be a thermostat. Others were evap, cat, and one that said "manufacturer control", which I expect means it's propitiatory and my cheapy reader doesn't have the info.

I also looked at a Range Rover that I really liked, but also has a few issues, one of which is the BMW 4.4l engine that is known to have timing chain issues. It sounded like it had a supercharger on it when first started, which was odd.
