It's a car model they bought and rebadged IIRC. I can't remember which.

To me this ^ is the single most famous and consequential Volvo. I know I'll get disagreement, maybe you believe it was Irv Gordon's P1800 car (also shown here), or The Saint 1962 P1800, or another.

Probably a dead-center predictable Gen X take, but it's my take. :D

Excellent photos Steve! Thanks very much!

What is the little yellow-green Fiat 128-ish thing? That’s a Volvo?
It’s a 1975 model 66 I think. I grabbed a history plate shot,,,,it came along with the acquisition of DAF , a Dutch auto maker

Interesting. Almost looks like an old Lada.
DAF is/was one of the big freight truck builders.

They were quirky little cars. We joked that they used rubber/elastic bands for their transmissions. They were a very early form of CVT. My uncle in London bought one and came to visit. He bought it as he had a bad hip so being an 'automatic' he found it easy to drive.

Like all new ideas they had a flaw in that no one knew how to service the transmissions or maintain them. My dad (we were in central Scotland) got a phone call from his brother saying he was stuck as his car would not go up hills!! Being a weekend there was no help and he was in the hilly area at the border between Scotland and England.

We set off in the trusty 1966 Ford Transit 12 seater mini-van we had and a tow rope. We then towed the car up to a repair shop in Edinburgh as my uncle was visiting family there first. I seem to recall the car was stuck there for a long time until someone could figure out how to tighten the friction bands.

Volvo went on to use the same type of transmission in the Volvo 343 in the late 1970's. It was not a huge success.

Neil.
