850 Window SLIDING BLOCK will NOT fit onto ball headed pin

Post by 850forum »

The only way to get the ball-headed pin (on the Scissors Arm) "into" the hole in the replacement Sliding Block is to squeeze it with slip joint pliers. But I cannot get the jaw of the pliers behind the Window Rail.

When tried just sqeezing the Sliding Block onto the Ball, without having the Sliding Block in place in the Rail, it was tight -- does not rotate, does not need the Clip. Had to really force it to get it back off, a slip of the screwdriver while levering it off & I could break the glass.

When the Sliding Block is in place in the Window Rail, I cannot push against the Scissors Arm hard enough to make the Ball "pop" into the hole. I think maybe the Scissors Arm is actually touching the Window Rail before the Ball goes deeply enough into the Hole -- so that the Clip could then slide into the groove at the base of the Ball Headed Pin on the Scissors Arm.

I cannot get the pliers into the access hole, in order to put one jaw behind the Window Rail, when the Sliding Block is in place on the Rail. Unless perhaps if I make room for the pliers by removing the Big Huge Plate that holds the whole motor & latch mechanism. But the Door Lock Bar is attached to THAT... and I don't see how I can detach the Door Lock Bar on the lock side, and there is a spring around the bolt holding it to the Big Huge Plate with lots of washers so I don't want to mess with that...

The parts indices say that this Sliding Block is a replacement part number due to "improving" it -- I wonder if they made the hole smaller to match some newer production Scissors with a smaller Ball Pin ??? This is a 1996 850.

So HOW am I supposed to do this? Sounds simple but in real life it just don't work.

I finally found a C clamp that would fit into the little access hole. Found a video doing a later model car with a HUGE access hole, & the guy said you do need to use pliers to squeeze it.

Also, don't lose the clip down the inside of the door. Tie a long twist tie (the kind used to wrap vegetables) to it, and the other end around your little finger.
