Is that a vacuum filler for the coolant? If so, what exactly is it, and are you happy with it? That's something that I've contemplated buying.
Just picked it up as my space is in the back of a shared building so it was nice to get the system mostly bled without idling the engine. It's just a harbor freight unit called 'MADDOX Cooling System Test and Refill Kit'. From the research I did it seems well regarded or at least good enough for diy. Only thing is, you need compressed air to pull the vacuum.

And yeah Steve we've come along way from the first time I pulled a Volvo engine apart 😅

The next weakest link was the rubber grommet around the PTC "valve" allow smoke to spew out. The PTC just spins freely in the grommet. Can't buy that new anymore. I was contemplating buying the do88 intake pipe but its $300. I've decided to apply permatex around PTC to seal it up as a last ditch effort to save the intake. If that fails then do88 will have more of my money.
The snorkel with PTC office was available new for a 1999..I think the snorkel will fit all turbos and air boxes and was about half the d088 price.

I’ve got a spare 1999 I can measure the snouts and see if they are the same?

Much appreciated. I actually found the rubber grommet available from FCP for $28. Once it arrives I will install and redo the smoke test.

Unusual I know, but for some reason I have a good used 'snorkel', and a brand new one. I think the new one I bought that from Sweden from a place called junk.se a few years back as they sell clearance parts and it was cheap enough to not to be able to say no! :D

I don’t use my car a lot so it’s parked inside. But currently it’s snowing and freezing here and I had to use the car.

When I left it outside for a couple hours, upon starting the car, the engine was shaking a lot. Applied some throttle and it went away.

So here’s one more thing I should add to the to do list.

I replaced the original oil pan on my 2004 xc70 due to a leaking drain plug that was extremely oversized and pulled the threads out of the oem oil pan. The new oil pan from Spectra sealed around the flange and the oil cooler just fine. Both pans were identical. I now have a leak on the passenger side near the oil filter housing coming from 2 plugs there that are 10mm Allen's.. I checked the threads after noticing no sealant on them and they were just metric thread not npt which surprised me and left me at a loss for how this was supposed to seal. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I tried to use threadlocker and teflon tape just for sheets but no luck so far. I would like to actually do it correctly if at all possible. Next option is to braise since cast aluminum is so hard to actually weld

Find some plumbers pipe thread sealer and use it. Both internal and external threads will need to be clean and dry. Clean with brake cleaner to remove the oil. Let it cure the recommended time (temperature may be a factor) before refilling.

The rough idle saga continues. I'm just about out of ideas here. Ive repaired all the intake and vacuum leaks. the idle air valve is clean and functioning on the bench. The fuel pump holds steady at 40psi when running. Ive cleaned the throttle body, verified a clean air filter, changed the fuel filter. Swapped in new fuel injectors from rock auto which I was planning to do anyway. New spark plugs to rule it out. The wires are bougicord with only 5,000 miles on them. The cap and rotor are clean and also only have 5,000 miles. Ive now turned my attention to the oxygen sensors. Using the torque pro app and a bluetooth scanner, I can only see the upstream sensor and based on my research it seems to be working. Are there any scanners that can see the downstream sensor? Will Vol-FCR see it? How is everyone getting Vol-FCR anyway?
