These oem tailgate struts didn’t last 5-6 yrs. that’s if the 19 stands for 2019.

I bought the car last year and the tailgate struts was already not working well. Now it goes smoothly up automatically.

The new struts are manufactured last year. Hopefully it’ll outlast me owning the car.

Welcome to our world up here. I've heard it is really cold out east in Canada too with predicted temps down to -50C in some areas with the windchill.

Today I am planning a junkyard run for pieces for the 06 V70 if they are still there as BlackLab gave me a call to give me a heads up that there was a new car with parts I am looking for. Yesterday was only about -6 to -8C without windchill. Next week we are to creep up above 0C for a few days. Hate that as the snow turns to mush and then ice. Great...........

And we’re complaining when it’s 1 degrees Celsius now haha.

I’m warm in the box, trying to remove the darned tailgate window strip.
It’s stuck in the glass adhesive. I have to cut the metal part and mangle it out.

It's a true PITA to remove, I used various small pliers. I then derusted it, painted it and filled in the groove with sikaflex.

Would a heat gun help with this project?

Unfortunately not. I check the window date stamp and it’s from 2008.
So the tailgate window has been replaced and they used a lot of adhesive which wasn’t applied nice and evenly.

Yes it has been a challenge for those out east in Canada and many US states with this latest arctic blast. Try to stay warm and plan for even those short trips if you have to make them. Take more warm stuff and possibly even a blanket just in case that traffic snarl happens. Keep the fuel tank topped up.

Junkyard run done yesterday to recover a set of folding mirrors and the center dash button. It was a mild -17C when I arrived, but the big difference was no wind chill. It warmed up quickly to -10C by the time I left. I'd rather not go there at those temps, but when a rare part arrives you have to take the chance! :D

Stay safe all our MVS friends and families!
