Intermittent stalling on 1993 850glt

Post by Randy »

New Plugs, wires & cap. New battery. New fuel pump relay. New low speed sensor.
A couple of times a week the old 850 (140,000 miles) just stalls. (dealer can not duplicate the problem) It has happened at 50 mph and 5 mph. Seems to happen as I let off the gas pedal, but not sure. Tach comes down slowly when it happens, which makes me think fuel or air related rather than electical. However, I have heard that the fuel pump relay needs a full battery??? Fuel filter?? Fuel pump??(expesive!)
Any suggestions?

My 93 850 GLT is also experiencing a bit of stalling. It usually happens while the car is sitting at a light or at idle waiting to make a turn. It happens about 1x every month or 2. I have used some injector cleaner and changed the gas filter, but I doubt that's the problem. The tach starts to drop and then dies. I was going to try one of the fixes for the other models, such as cleaning the throttle body. It hasn't happened for awhile, but my suspicion is a sending unit such as the one described in one of the chats on the 960: that one is located on the flywheel. They're so many electronic components on the vehicles today, the Saturday mechanic doesn't have a chance.

Had a number of stalls usually when at a slow speed. After reading a number of times about low voltage to the fuel pump relay, I decided to replace the battery. that same day the car stalled, but hasn't stalled since, which was about 2 months ago. I suspect the battery wasn't fully charged when it was installed. I'm convinced it was the battery.

Wow. I guess I'm not suprised any longer when I hear that the battery is the cause of strange problems. The battery can be the root of much evil in cars.

Good that you seem to have the problem taken care of.
