OK that makes total sense. So the o-rings, if bad, will allow the oil to drain out even if you have a check valve, thus giving me that sound at startup? I suppose then I still have a bit of air coming into the engine oil at all times, it just isn't as bad as others who notice a pronounced noise at all times? Now that I think about it, the engine is a *little* noisy after startup as well but by the time I reach home is quiet.Ozark Lee wrote:+1
It is all about keeping the oil on the top of the engine. Without the check valve in the oil filter or with a crappy check valve on the oil filter it will drain immediately. With bad O rings it just drains a little slower.

And replacing the o-rings should help in keeping the oil at the top of the engine. Ok I think I see now. It sounds like a time consuming job, I can't find any pictures of the writeup, just text, so I will try and take some. There was a writeup linked on here but it seems the link is now dead.
