Ok, so after swapping out the purge valve and putting the old gas cap back on, I got another engine code, I assumed that it was P0455 but it wasn't, it was P0108. So I changed the canister valve to see if it was faulty. The code came back, so I will check it this morning and if it's P0455 then that tells me the other canisster valve is bad and to put on my original one because the code went away with it. If it's not the P0455 and it's the P0108 then I just have to replace the MAP sensor and P0455 is solved.
No visible cracks in any lines all the way up, it was the purge valve under the radiator shroud, the J hose and the evap canister hose the 18" long with a 4" L on end hose.

I just wanted to say "thanks!" to all of you who shared knowledge/pain/frustration/solution from dealing with P0455 code. My mother's 2000 S70 Non-Turbo had this problem and obviously she failed the emission inspection. Well, I decided to tackle this thing by myself. In my case, as was the case for many others, J-Hose and L-Hose were the culprits. I first replaced the EVAP purge valve that's on the radiator shroud, but that didn't solve anything.($50 wasted, but oh well...)

Be sure to try tightening or replacing the fuel cap first, unplug the negative cable for 15 minutes- then drive car for 50-75 miles without shutting engine off, if light stays off chances are it could have fixed the problem, if the cap was not tightened properly it it could have triggered the code/check engine light, also if you replace the cap be aware that some at the auto stores are not to ofc specs so best to buy it from the dealer. I just did this and upon driving the car 60 miles engine light stayed off on my 98 S70, if this doesn't work I would try the J hose prior to changing the charq filter & silanoid, all of which are easy enough to repair yourself.

On a 1998 these parts are under the driver side front fender. You have to loosen the fender plastic liner to get good access to wrench on these. Numerous pictures in other threads.

Ok, I took off the plastic liner, looked around the charcoal canister and voila! the hose going to the AIR nipple is rotted. Clearly I do not want to replace the entire hose so is there a specific type of rubber that I need to splice in? Since this is the vent, I should not have to worry about fuel vapor rotting the hose so can I simply buy something of the same size and "magically" splice it in? In the meantime, can I simply plug the AIR charcoal canister's nipple?

I had good luck using 8mm inner diameter silicone tubing to replace the line between the charcoal canister and the air vent valve.
