Does anyone know what this plug is for? It is red, and there is one on each side, connected to the same wire going to the headlights. Is it for headlight wipers or fog lights?

Everything is looking great. You have done a lot in a short time. Do you have wires under the passenger seat? We could work on electric/heated seats. Think about it. This weekend is pulling the rest of the part and getting ready to remove from the house.

It's been a few days, and I haven't done a whole lot. I got the scan tool Monday, and I didn't realize serial and VGA are different, so I have an adapter on the way so I can use the cable through USB. And it's taking its time to get here! I'd rather get the transmission sorted out before I go painting everything. Though, I would like to get that spray paint off the driver's side with some compound.
I did polish the driver side fender to test out the Meguiar's Ultimate Polish on a black car, like it suggests, and it came out nicely. I finished it off with Collinite 845 Insulator Wax, and it is the BEST wax I've every used! It goes on easily and is VERY easy to remove, as well! It's supposed to last a long time, too. The paint looks amazing!
I also wrapped some of the trim in vinyl, but I took off some of it, because it didn't come out too well. The two parts I wanted done the most look alright. I need to work out some wrinkles on the center stack, but it's really not that bad. I just couldn't stand the gray plastic. I'd love wood grain, but there's no way I'm paying $40 for all of it from pull a part. I also don't want to go through everything to get the console and center stack trim out. Whole lot of work...
Anyway... if that adapter comes this weekend, I might be able to get her on the road for the first time. I can't wait!

The paint looks awesome! My 850's having some serious paint issues, and I've been wondering whether to get the whole car done, or just parts... if I can get the paint looking like this where it's still salvagable, then I'd be a happy camper.
Also, I think I've seen 3 different people ask about those red connectors the last couple of days... as far as I've been able to tell, they're part of the lighting wiring. Wipers or extra lighting. I have the fog lights in the R bumper, and that's not it, so they're likely to be optional light connections. I bet there's one near your battery on the driver's side.

I think it's for the headlight wipers. My cousin's car has them, and he has fog lights, so that's probably not what they are for. His fog lights aren't even connected, though. No idea why.Sommerfeldt wrote:The paint looks awesome! I got my VAG-COM cable today, and VOL-FCR works well with it, minus the fact that I can't get transmission codes. However, I was able to get codes for the SRS and electronic climate control. I am attaching the screen shots with the codes, because I don't know what to do with them, meaning I don't know what needs to be done. Next time connect the computer, I'll clear them and see what comes back (probably should have done that), but this is what I have now.

You really must clear the codes and see what comes back. For example, those SRS codes may all go away.

Just did... I only have the 3 for the seatbelts now, which I am going to get within the next week or two. The climate control codes all went away. Now I need to find out how to get tranny codes... always needs to be a pain in the...

Please post up when you figure it out. I just got VOL-FCR and haven't used it much, would like to hear what people see.
