Volvo 850 Air Box Mod - Seriously GREAT Sound

Post by BackInBlack »

Here is a link to the 850 air box mod with pictures:

Comment as you wish.

I do understand a small amount of aerodynamics but I didn't do this modification for any performance gains, purely sound enhancements.

(Yes, I do have an account on both forums)

Do you still have the cold air hose hooked up to the bottom of the box?

Not in the photo but have recently re-connected it. I have only re-connected it to gain fresh air like a 'ram air effect' at higher speeds (I have dremeled the snow-guard/plastic cover off).

In that case you're going to be sucking warm air from the engine compartment while you're stopped and as you start to accelerate. As you come up to speed, cooler air will be forced into the airbox, partially (or maybe coompletely) reducing the suction of the hot air into the intake. So the performance effects shouldn't be so bad, as long as you don't drag race.
