Accelerates By Herself
Hey Guys! Transmission is in, and everything is all back where it should be. It shifts smoothly in all gears and I'm so happy that it works, and I don't have to go through the process again. However, there is a problem-- the car revs in all gears (including park). This goes away when I press on the brake. Other symptoms include hard starting (I had to crank the engine a few times to get it to turn over). What could this be? Thanks guys!

i had a similar issue like this.
My car would speed up whenever it wanted to. It threw codes but none of them fixed my problem. I replaced 3 IAC thinking that was the problem. I was about to toss my car in the ocean when I decided to change the temperature sensor. The long one that goes near the thermostat.
After that my car never tried to go fast without me pressing the pedal.
Give it a shot.

Okay. I read your symptoms, and they sound similar. However, when you braked did the engine stop revving? You said it was "scary to stop."
I looked under the hood today, and there was a slight coolant leak right onto the temperature sensor. Unfortunately, being Labor day the dealership was closed, I'm going to try the junk yard. I keep wondering if it is related to the cruise control.
I was driving today, and when the brake was applied I could hear a ticking noise. The noise clued me in that the car was about to start accelerating by itself when I let off the brake. Other times the brake wouldn't make the clicking noise and the car wouldn't accelerate by itself. When the ticking wasn't present it would always operate normally (without accelerating by itself), and then it would start doing it again. So it is intermittent, but still very prevalent. Is this at all familiar?

Okay, well haven't taken care of the temp sensor yet as everything was closed for labor day. However, I know that whatever is causing it to speed up is utilizing the kick-down cable. Under the dash there is a vacuum that is connected to the gas pedal-- this has been the culprit making the car speed up. I disconnected the hose and now it can't influence the kick-down. I hope to get a new temp sensor tomorrow, and then I'll reattach the hose to the gas pedal. Does this still sound right if it is the coolant temperature sensor?
