Anyone done this?
One of the two wires going into the red socket that plugs to the front right ABS sensor has ripped open exposing the wires. This caused an ABS-312 Front Right sensor circuit error. I spliced it and heat-shrink wrapped it but still giving the same error code.
I'm thinking of getting a replacement cable at the yards. Where does the ABS cable terminate inside the engine bay? Does it terminate with a plug or socket? Or is it wired to the main wiring harness?
Thanks.

If you use Bilstein strut, it may be the problem. Bilstein has an extra flange that can rub the wiring.
I wrote a DIY here, I notice that issue and provided a pic where you can use a fuel hose to protect the wiring:
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 5&p=130339
1. Did you reset the ABS light with code reader.
2. You can try dealer for the wiring if necessary.
These are just standard wiring, nothing special about it.

Volvo main dealers will sell you the ABS wire including heatshrink/connectors/covers
To replace the wires it's a matter of cutting the old wire out then splicing the new wires back in you should find the new wires are the same colours as the ones you're removing. Soldering the joints is the best way to connect the two parts but you can always use the tiny spade clips followed by the heatshrink to cover the exposed jointed wires

Thanks for the replies.
When I cut and spliced the abs wires I noticed they are shielded. I'm certain my splicing and heat-shrinking made a secure connection - yet this still caused the ABS-312 error code even after I had reset it via software.
I'm wondering if the cables are like the wires of the O2 sensors - they are sensitive and need to have a certain ohm resistence.
Which is why I'm consider an abs sensor cable from the yards - but need to know if the cable terminates inside the engine bay via a socket or plug - so I can simply unplug the cable at both ends rather than cutting it up and splicing again.

OK, I've determine the abs cable is indeed faulty as I used a multimeter to check the circuit from the ABS harness that plugs to the module. Pins #3 and #18 correspond to the right front sensor and it is currently an open circuit.
There is a TSB specific to 96 models only regarding a weak crimp under the fuse box causing intermittent ABS issues. See the first paragraph of this article:
http://volvospeed.com/Repair/abstrax.php
Anyone know which is the wire with the weak crimp? Anyone have access to the TSB database and get download the article?
Thanks!

Updating an older thread here as no one answered and I'm faced with the same issue. While probing the ABS module connector I discovered the FR wiring was open. The remaining three read about 1099 Ohms or so.
I pulled the FR wheel off and discovered the ABS wiring sheared right off near the connector! Not sure how that happened. It WAS there last year when I did all the work.
Q: I've traced it up into the engine compartment, into a hard, black wiring loom, then it appears to go into the windshield washer/ fresh air intake cowling. I haven't pulled that off yet. Is there a connector there...somewhere....anywhere?
I searched the 850 manual I found and it shows both front ABS sensors going directly into the module, while the rear's show several connectors. I'm familiar with the yellow connectors in the rear, under the inspection plate.

On my V70 the front ABS sensors go to connectors on the shock towers. Is your break before that? The abs sensor comes with a new connector

Yeah...but yours is a 99, not a 98. After looking at an earlier post of yours mentioning same, I went looking for a connector in the same area (top of the shock tower). No joy. If Volvo put it down lower, I haven't found it....yet.

I fired up VADIS and there is no connector for either front ABS sensor harness. This agrees with the schematic I found earlier, but not for a '98 model year. VADIS recommends cutting the pass side ABS cable a short distance from where it enters the hard, plastic harness loom then properly shortening the replacement cable before crimp/solder/heat-shrink in place.

Well I learned something today.
In 1999, the front abs sensors changed To sensors with hardware instead of connection at the sensor.
