Post by aquavolvo1 »

Am i the only one that has to hear the door chime telling me my drivers side door is open all the way to work each morning when the door is, indeed, closed?

Chances are the door lock mechanism is messed up. The switch that tells the system that the door is closed is actually part of the locking mechanism itself.

If you want to shut things up you can remove the chime itself - it is located high on the firewall in the lower electrical center just below the main fuse box. The relay is number 212 and it is normally blue in color and it has slits cut in the end of the relay. Just unplug it.

+1

Just remove the chime. That is the easiest and cheapest fix. Just out of curiosity, are the lights on in the car when the door is closed?

the added benefit of taking it out is that you can work on the car with the doors open and radio on and not be bothered by it.

Don't forget - If the domelight fuse blows, the chime will go nuts...

My door chime is on when the door is opened and no key in the ignition. Once the door is closed the chime shuts off. As if the chime is ringing to remind me the key is in the ignition, when in fact it is not.

That's probably the little switch in the ignition that detects if there's a key in it or not.
I've heard tell that a short, sharp shot of WD will happify that little guy.

I have a 1998 V70 with the same door chime issue, plus the door light is on if I don't slam it regardless of whether the key is in or not. I kill my battery finally. Is there a fuse or relay that will kill both?

Thanks,

MIke
