Is there a way to tell if an ECU has been updated for a 98 t5 volvo? If so, one be able to tell if it has been updated by IPD?

i bought my IPD ecu second-hand and on mine, there are no obvious markings that'd indicate that it's an IPD unit.

Indubitably... I also have their 3" turboback exhaust which adds to the fun.

yeap! and even better with IPD's HD TCV, CBV (Red spring) new Flam trap (PCV), RIP intercooler pipes/hoses K&N filter, new distributor w/cap, spark plugs, and 8mm silicone wires, new silicone hoses for all vacuum and Turbo hoses. So far, she's smokin everyone at the lights and they do eat my tail pipes!

are you guys running with an auto trans? I want to upgrade to more power, but couldn't get a straight answer about how long the trans will hold up. Its an AISIN unit, and I've dealt with that company from playing with Toyotas the last 20 yrs, and I gotta tell you they build some really strong transmissions. They also supply Lexus.

read this: http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=10961 contains some very good information and it seems with a cooler and all else being in good condition, the trans is OK up to 300hp. Not sure if I would go that high though....

I have learned over the years a good cooler, and to lift slightly when the trans is shifting to reduce shock saves the trans. That and not beating on it 24/7.

I am looking for like a stage III setup, around 285hp. Looking for 15psi, exhaust, IPD ECU, R exhaust manifold (maybe), intake, and high flow cat. Honestly, the front tires can't handle much more power than stock already  The car really hustles, and if it had quicker gearing, like a real first gear (not one that revs to 45-50mph), it would be a tire smoker even at stock levels!

Thanks

 I love racing Hondas with this car and these steep gears. From a stop, they get like a real quick 2-4 car lead up to about 40mph. They think they won at this point. Then as they are shifting into 2nd, I am just getting into my power band in 1st and gain a quick car or 2 back. Then as I hit 2nd gear and it keeps chugging past 60, and now its just a matter of time. Like a shark or vulture circling, the end is near. By time 2nd gear revs out, I've pulled all those car lengths back, and just start walking them. I've had this thing to 140 already, and it just keeps pulling. Most cars today can't even go past 110 without 5 miles of road. I really beat down a turbo VW the other day, with a loud blow off valve, and he wouldn't even look over at the next light. I was yelling, "You lost to a Volvo son! You lost to a VOLVO!" haha punk

Long 1st gear ratio helps control wheel spin. This car needs a good 5sp auto like the later gens.
