Mystery lever - Maybe part of recirc function? 2000 V70 XC

I've pulled the cabin blower on my 2000 V70 XC wagon and while some wd40 is soaking in I went to look at the rest of that area.

I found a lever that does not appear to be attached to any controller (although it seems to have a space at the "top" end where it could be attached). When gently tugged on, it activates what I think is the recirculation damper (a door at the bottom of the Cabin Air Filter intake/housing). Is this the primary control arm for the recirculation function, and if so where/how does it attach?

I also was checking out the location of the blower motor resistor in case I end up having to replace it. As I was feeling around trying to figure out how it is removed, I noticed a plug with cables to the right of it that enters the same housing as the blower motor resistor, but seems to have nothing attached to it inside the housing. It's green and smallish. Pic below. What is this and should something be attached to it?

Thanks for any help you can give -- I don't usually work on cars, I guess it shows. Cooking? Plants? Mac computers? I'm your gal. Cars are usually the other half's job, but he is too busy and wants a manual first....me, I want a working defroster SOON.

They're for '98's, but this stuff all carries through '00.

The pic's solve one question -- the green thing must be 7/11 which looks like a sensor of some kind -- so nothing attached inside is fine. I can ignore that one.

I think that the loose arm must attach up to what the picture shows as 6/48 ...but it doesn't show me the side where the arm would attach! How the heck do I put that thing on? And did I miss something that would give me names or other part numbers?

Sorry - But that's about all I've got. VADIS should have more.
These are pages from the wiring diagram book available on this site.
For P/N's or deeper detail on how the system works, VADIS is
probably your best bet besides what you can find on the boards.

Sounds like there may be an actuator missing, that's what I was
hoping the component locations might tell you.

Well, I kind of reached it up and pushed it against a square-shaped shaft that looked like it might fit in the hole on the arm. Took a couple of tries but it seemed to be holding while I re-assembled the glovebox etc. Don't know if it's going to last under load...because I *still* haven't fixed the ECC. Going to start a new thread asking about getting codes....have tried everything I think I can do.
