1998 V70 XC fuel pump - how to get to it

Ok so I found out that the 1998 v70 xc fuel pump was best removed by cutting the floor pan out, ok so here is the problem i can not get the two wires from here is a pic of some one else wires mine are not that rusty . How do I get them off ???? im in pissed off mode haha I did get the connecters off fuel in and out

It's a real pain in the ass to remove the connector wire because it was wedged between the floor and the top of the fuel reservoir. You could try loosening the holding strap so the reservoir can be lowered a bit to pull the wire.

This is the half of the battle because the other one is to find a way to reroute the new wire since it's pratically impossible to fish the wire in the same place without risking knocking something else. I managed to do by routing along the edge, around the suspension part and up to the connector. I ziptied to make sure it stay firmly in place to avoid rubbing on any suspension part.

so are you saying the wire dose not come off the section in the pic , and is removed further back on top of the tank??

The connectors are docked under the cover that is the fuel pump access on FWD cars. Look above and to the right of differential on the top of the suspension framework and you will see fuel filter and the connectors.
access panel is under floor panel behind seat.

Well this is the awd i cut the floor pan out to gain access to the pump trouble is i cant get the connectors for the wires to come off the pump, I dont have a book just ordered one, was hoping to get this done by the weekend thanks for the help in advance

I know it is AWD. I own a 98 V70 XC myself. The wires on the cap in your photos do not come off. The wires you see end in connectors located where I described.

jimmy57 is correct, the wires cannot be disconnected from the pump side since it's sealed to avoid fuel leaks around the electrical connector. The oinly way is from the connector which is located near the fuel pump, just behind the cargo panel near the back passenger seat.

Thanks for the help everyone I installed it yesterday the pump was a b@#@H and was too long had to cut part of the nipple on the bottom of the pump off about a 1/4 inch so it would fit in the housing, test drove it and looks like its seeping a little around the top prob not seated properly im about to go figure it out. But any way cheers

FWIW I cut mine and it works fine.

I cut all 4 wires and installed fully nylon-insulated/sheathed spade connectors to put it back together. I packed the sheaths full of silicone dielectric grease before connecting everything up to make assembly (and heaven forbid disassembly) easier and also to keep the water out.

If you mix up the white wires for the level sender your fuel level guage will try to go 'down' instead of 'up' when you turn the key on. It's pretty tough to mix up the red (+12V) and black (ground) wires.
