Assembling additional parts list for a new Failed Parts poll

Post by matthew1 »

Please look at this list, then add parts that have failed, meaning parts that have actually broken or failed.

What we don't want are consumables like struts, windshield wipers, tires, etc. Those are meant to wear out, and expected to be replaced.

The following are the 22 items we have in the current poll. At that time, I was limited to 22 items. Now I can up to 100.

This topic is not the new poll, only the harvesting of parts that should have been in the current poll. After a few weeks, I'll take your additions that you add to this topic and make a new topic with a new Failed Parts poll. It will be much better, more complete, obviously. I'll do the same for the other forums, including Volvo V70, XC-70, S60 (2001-2010), Volvo S80 Forum, Volvo XC90 Forum, Volvo V70 Forum, XC70 Forum (2008+) Forum, and maybe the rest.

If you have suggestions on breaking some of the current ones out into two or more, please speak up.

Please don't list anything you'd find in a Volvo's maintenance schedule. We've got to draw the line between consumables and everything else, so let's use maintenance schedules as the "yardstick".

Ok, all that said, please fire away. Please list your items on their own line, like this:

Radar dish
Missile launcher
Torpedo loader

So far we have:
  • Timing belt [I'm going to remove this because it's a consumable]
  • Top engine mount bushing
  • Thermostat
  • Door check strap or hinge
  • ABS module
  • Rear main seal
  • Wheel bearing
  • AC evaporator
  • ETM
  • Battery cable
  • Any keyless entry component
  • Any interior switch
  • Camshaft position sensor
  • Fuel pump or relay
  • Heater core/ blower / resistor
  • AWD's driveshaft or bevel gear
  • Power antenna
  • Sway bar links
  • Mass airflow sensor
  • Air pump
  • Glovebox lock
  • Head gasket

ignition coil pack (the one per spark plug kind on the later cars) - or do you consider these a consumable?
If God had meant cars to have fuel injection, he never would have given us the SU carburetter

Perfect. I have little reason to suspect those are considered consumables. Thanks.

Does defroster plate count? mine cracks more every time I hit a bump.
Also, heated seats,
Window buttons/(main module)
Spring seats.
Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

On my now sold burgundy 850 '95 wagon:

New ignition switch (genuine from FCP)

A/C pressure switch at firewall

lower crank side engine mount

Receiver-drier for a/c

and a lot of other consumables which hadn't been done for a while. Must say though she was a very sweet ride and I miss her now!!
