Swapping seats from a '99 V70xc to my '97 850 GLT. This topic has been covered some at:

The '99 seats, frame and all, drop right into my 850 GLT interior. The wiring plugs/connectors are different. Anyone have a wiring diagram for the 99 seats? Swapping seat skins is an option but the foam on the 850 seats is worn. Thanks.

What do you do with the SIPS in the 99? Just leave them in ? I guess if you ever sell the cr you should warn the new owner that they are there in case they work on the seats...

Ive got a 99 of course, PM me if you are still in need to some wiring help. Would a picture of the 99 setup help as a start?

The SIPS bags won't work if you fit 99 seats in to an earlier motor as the 99 has electrically fired air bags whereas the 98 and earlier seats had SIPS bags that were mechanically initiated.

Another change is the seat mounted clip which the seatbelt clips in to (the bit with the red press to release seatbelt) 98 and earlier employed a micro-switch in the buckle, the 99 and later seatbelt clips used an inductive proximity switch, the two types are not interchangeable and fitting the wrong type (later type in to older car) will prevent the seatbelt warning lights from working, fitting 98 or earlier seats in to a 99 or later car will prevent the fasten seatbelt warnings from working AND trigger the SRS fault light on the dash (drivers side seatbelt buckle signal missing is what VIDA reports back).

Lastly where the seatbelt lower outboard attachment goes on to the seat frame is different, 99 and later employ a quick release clip, 98 and earlier the belt is fitted to the seat through a bolt through a loop in the end of the belt, you can swap the brackets with a bit of filing to match the hole profile so the old bracket fits the newer seat base.

If the new seats are electrically adjusted and your old ones were mechanical the car should be wired for electrical seats BUT the self resetting circuit breakers in the fusebox under the hood near the windscreen will be missing - Mike

My 1999 has the bolt on seat belts attach points. Might be a mid model year change

Thanks for the info Mike. I was aware of the seatbelt attachment and the seatbelt clips. The '99 seats I got from the recycle yard have the bolt on seat belt attachment points. The more I read on this subject, I am leaning toward swapping the skins and hopefully the bottom seat foam. Not sure about the foam for the back rest portion. Both of my original 850 seats were electric w/ memory so the circuit breakers should be there.

Got the seats replaced. Ended up using the base from my 850 with the "new" seats from the 99 v70 bolted to the base from the 850.
SIPS no longer active
Seat belt reminder- there was none on the passenger side. Spliced the driver's side into the new seat.
Power seats work-drivers side includes memory. Passenger side has all power functions, but not memory.

If anyone needs foam/parts/pieces from the old seats all I would ask is to pay the shipping. Also, I have two extra seats from a 97 850 that have some wear (I was going to use those, but found better ones at the salvage yard). Thanks to abscate for the pix of the 99 seat wiring.

Hello, I used this wiring connector when doing my seat change.
just a quick "plug" for a wiring connector that is easy to use, reusable, and doesn't require soldering or crimping. The Posi Lok connector. See a short video review from one of my other favorite websites www.webbikeworld.com -
I had bought them from NAPA originally but they no longer carry it. Available on Amazon or company website. Google for more info. Hope to perform PCV replacement tomorrow. Thanks all.
