1997 Volvo 850 - would Ozark Lee use chamfered shims today?

I am working on replacing parts at rear brake including Parking, collecting ATE and TEXTER parts. cn90 says the chamfered shims were relics of bygone cars.

Is it applicable to 1997?

I guess my answer is a strong maybe.

Most of the time I can just use full Teflon shims lubed up with Sil Glyde along with decent pads and I get no squeaks. Most of my cars have Mintex Reds for pads.

On one of the cars, I can't remember which one for sure but I think it was the Platinum, the rears squeaked anyway and cutting the shims made the squeak go away. Many of the pads now have a pad adhered to the back of the plate which I guess in theory takes the place of the shim.

Volvo changed rear shims on the DB2 pads to a half stainless shim to counter rear brake squeal complaints. It lbasically looks like half a shim.

Two photos showing items removed from driver's rear brake. No half shim?
The parking brake removal took a bit longer -- gentler.
