ABS light

Post by l33tDad »

My ABS light is on.. Not REAL worried as I still have brakes, but spring is here and I'm itching to get my hands dirty working on the car. The codes on my 850 is reading a bad sensor on the right-rear wheel. However after looking over at Volvospeed, they are saying a bad abs module is the culprit nearly all of the time, even if I'm pulling a wheel sensor bad code. Thoughts? I don't want to throw good money into a solution that won't fix my problem, so which should I do: repair the module or replace the wheel sensor(s)? Also, if I pull the abs module to have it repared, can I still drive the car?

Do a search here for Victor Rocha. He is a member here and much is posted about him. He is the ABS guru who rebuilds the module and makes it better than OEM. Price (take it out yourself, send it in and put it back in) is about $140 within continental U.S.A. Well worth the effort. I had mine done by him last year and it works like a champ!

Yea, seems that may be the way to go. I have read many posts regarding him durring my stint of lurking before registering and found his site (http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/), but wanted to make sure that this would be the most prudent choice as opposed to replacing the rear sensors.

It's a '93... no problematic ABS module.

Try cleaning up the wheel sensor first. If that doesn't fix it, just order a replacement one. This is a very easy item to replace  .

Is it only the 93's that don't have a problematic module? I only ask because a co-worker has a '95 and is curious....

Nope, they all have the problem.

The 1993 to '95 model years did not have the problem... the ABS module is a completely different design.

'96 and later 850's, all S70's, and a couple of the P2 cars are the ones that have the flawed ABS modules.

Okay, cool... After I replace my struts (holy crap that's going to be expensive), I'm going to do the ABS and will report back as to what my fix was...
