1998 V70 Obscene Rear Suspension Clunks
Hi there, I'm new to Volvos and i'm not yet familiar with how the rear suspension is set up on these cars. Anywho, there is a ridiculously loud cluck/bang noise in the right rear area of the car when I drive over uneven road surfaces or small bumps. What I believe has failed is the trailing arm bushing. I took a look under the car and noticed something that didn't look "right". Is this the trailing arm bushing? And if so, is this the part that I need to buy to replace it? Note that the picture is supposed to be flipped 90 degrees clockwise
Thanks!
Thanks!

That looks to me like a bad delta link, not the trailing arm bushing.
And that's a really bad one. I think that's a "stop driving the car" bad.
Delta link replacement is a nasty, nasty job on these cars. It's best to use the special tool to remove them, although a lot of places burn them out after removing the entire rear axle.

The part that you linked to is a bushing that connects the two delta arms together, there are two of them and they are side dependent - left and right. Yours may or may not be bad
The part that you pictured and need is the end link. Both sides are the same and it is this part:

The part that I linked to is the Lemforder but there is a cheaper Pro Parts Sweden version at FCP. I actually used a Scan Tech part on mine and it has held up fine for seven or eight years and about 150k miles. I don't know if the Pro Parts Sweden version is that good or not. eEuroparts may have the Scan Tech version.
On mine I just melted them out with a torch while they were on the car but you need to pay attention if you do that so that you don't melt brake lines or fuel lines.
This is a thread I started when I changed mine out but most of the original post should be ignored. There is great information in the thread though.

Thank you! I'm going to call around to get quotes from local repair shops. Hopefully it isn't too expensive of a job because I REALLY wont want to be doing this with my lack of time/tools/skills. haha. However, if I do end up doing this job myself, I will definitely be renting the special Volvo tool!
