What is the name of this hose - evaporator leak?

Post by songzunhuang »

I was changing out my radiator and noticed a broken hose. It's a short piece from the check valve to another part (T-junction) I am uncertain about.

Could this be causing my gross Evap leak code?

Does anyone know the part number or name for this hose?
Broken hose that I need identified.

Haha, I have silicon vacuum hoses, but this one is a larger diameter than most. It's not big enough to be a heater hose 5/8" and not small enough to be a fuel line 3/8" size. So I thought I would reach out and get the collective knowledge of the forum.

Yeah that big hose leak might have something to do with it.

I'd just go to any auto parts store, take off the old broken hose and bring it in. They can match the size, cut you a new piece and you'll be on your way for probably less than a couple bucks.

I think the side on the break is the purge valve connection so you have found your evap leak, certainly.

In reality, I had not been able to find the evap leak because I don't think that hose was broken clean through like it is in the picture. I was changing the radiator this weekend and tugging on the radiator caused a bit of stress on that hose. Enough stress to snap it in two.

I don't have time through the week to deal with this and my daughter is the driver of the car each day. So I was trying to get a part number by asking the forum members just to order the part and put it on when I have time in the evening. By the time I get home in the evening it's dark and I just can't seem to squeeze enough free time to get to removing the hose and going to the parts store before they close.

In any case, I taped it up and am hoping it'll hold until the weekend when I have time to look at this again.
Thanks for the input.

I did some research on that particular check-valve awhile ago. I'd replaced the tubing with silicone (highly recommended), but was unable to find the check-valves separately. Once the CV's start leaking you'll lose boost pressure, mpg, performance, etc. One indy friend uses an ATE substitute: #1228272, though I thought they were a bit more restrictive, flow-wise. After much digging I found Volvo part #1275226. They're black instead of gray + the dealer has them for only $19/ea. Compare that to the price of Volvo #9445436 ($100) and IPD's 113836 - EVAP Purge Valve Service Kit @ $177. A downside is it only has one of the CV's: You'll need two.

Busted in half like yours will definitely cause a GROSS evap leak P0455!

LOL you gotta love forum drift ... Not one reply has addressed OP's actual question ("What is the part number of the hose?"), even when/if we quote it.

Well I went out in the dark and measured the hose. It is 15mm od, which implies that it's a 12mm id.

Now I know what to go look for. Funny part is that it's about 2-3". I probably have to buy it by the foot. I'll drop by a parts store during the week and see what I can scrounge up.

If you're referring to my "quote & reply" not answering the OP's question, then you ought to actually read my reply and type in the part numbers I listed.
Sleddriver wrote:.... Compare that to the price of Volvo #9445436 ($100)....
As previously stated, the part number of that hose is 9445436, which comes with two pressure check-valves as well. Autobarn Volvo has it for $84. Beats paying $100, but the OP can do better by picking up hose that'll fit and two #1275266's from the dealer for $38 or the ATE's which are even less. Finally, if you look closely at the photo, you'll note the vacuum lines are NOT all the same ID....

As I also previously stated, the hose is easy to replace with something else. I used easily sourced silicone. The valves however are much harder to find, so I posted that as a courtesy to the OP. If that short piece was that brittle, then the whole thing needs to be replaced, not just 3" of it. It's a safe bet that if his hose is that bad, the check valves are probably no longer checking, which means boost going where it shouldn't and more problems.

Yeah, your post was surely helpful, wasn't it? You didn't bother addressing the "OP's actual question" either. You even laughed at him. Was that helpful?
