07 v8 awd: cost of ownership? Topic is solved

A mid-size luxury crossover SUV, the Volvo XC90 made its debut in 2002 at the Detroit Motor Show. Recognized for its safety, practicality, and comfort, the XC90 is a popular vehicle around the world. The XC90 proved to be very popular, and very good for Volvo's sales numbers, since its introduction in model year 2003 (North America). P2 platform.

07 v8 awd: cost of ownership?

Post by CIK7 »

Im on ssi. I appreciate the p80 being cheap like it is. But its possible i could get more than one vehicle when i sell my 09 toyota rav4. I found a $2500 v8 awd model. Supposedly it just needs new brakes. I want to know if deeper pockets are required for general ownership of such a volvo. Key fobs not included in my query. I know theyre pricey. Ive already posted something similar about an xc70 in the p2 section.

That must be an xc90 model? I don’t think the xc70 came with a V8

The v8 has some interesting quirks to watch out for but that platform was solid and less maintenance intensive than the p80 imho.

You need VIDA UP AND running to service a P2 or pass that car up

I meant I made a similar post about the xc70 in the p2 (s60, v70, xc70) section like i did here with the xc90.

I do already know about the water-in-the-valley issue with the 05 v8 models. What quirks are you referring to? Anyone that knows a good bit about these quirks?

How much does it cost to get VIDA? Ive seen mention of that and people asking about it.

Large SUV with V8 would be expected to cost more for fuel and maintenance.

V8s cost more to maintain IMO, you'll be swapping out a few engine accessories between 130 and 180 thousand miles and fixing leaks along the way. Even with more time than money, you'll need to buy Volvo or direct OE parts as the motor is applicable to just two vehicles (S80, XC90). All this before you go into making the suspension right.

Can find them cheap-ish, they seem to go on the market around the time the leaks affect the alternator or the PS pump starts making a mess. Remediation cost is the most common reason to sell a V8.

All the best if you're stuck on a V8, just be aware that anything you'll find that's reasonable is most likely only reasonable because it needs work and the parts to do the work. I currently own two in very good condition so I have sort of an idea of what it costs to keep them that way.
