I searched already for this but found nothing here.
A few days ago the wife told me that her car had a message for low coolant. I checked and found that the reservoir showed a little low but had some coolant in it. I topped it off and went on my way.
Fast forward to today. I get a call from her that the check engine light is on and a message appears that states "down shift" or something to that effect. She cannot remember? After that she says it died and wouldn't restart. I showed up and poked around, but did not have any tools on me at the time. I did have my code reader and pulled codes for several cylinders misfiring. The car has about 120k miles and we bought it at 90k miles and have done regular maintenance.
What should I be looking for? I suspect that the ignition coil is a problem, but can i test them to be sure? Could the coolant loss beforehand be an indicator of something worse?
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks

Post the codes. Diagnosis by symptoms is not so effective on today's cars. Also the pattern of misfiring can be a clue.

Can't say if it's related but I wonder about the coolant loss - while there only use distilled water from walmart drug store ($2/gal) to top it a little, never tap water because it can clogg the heater core with lime deposits. Was the water pump replaced on this car? If so, was it a genuine part? Aftermarket ones last about 20-30k miles and can fail suddenly.
It's not ignition coils, even if one fails the car will still be runnning but with a misfire.

Thanks for the update. The coils usually fail either from spark plugs indeed, but also from high engine temperature
Could the engine be overheating a bit? The thermostat on these 3.2 is problematic
